Munching on your late-night cup noodles while watching a plethora of games piling up for 2026. Well, I can relate to this with you, mate, as the Sony State of Play on February 12, 2026, just ended, leaving millions of gamers in awe. Not going to sugarcoat it, but this met my expectations for the first time in gaming-related event I've ever witnessed in my whole life.
Hundreds of developers from across the world joined forces to unveil some of the most phenomenal games that we anticipated for a long time; every minute felt like a punch of black flash but filled with surfiet of games.
From approaching games like Marvel’s Wolverine, God of War: Sons of Sparta, to patch updates from Ghost of Yotei, the gaming community will be going through a dimension of narratives.
The enthusiasm sure makes me yap forever; however, as a gaming guide, let’s delve into the world of approaching bangers!
Highly Anticipated Games and Updates Announced in Sony State of Play 2026
1. Marvel Tokon : Fighting Souls
The legacy of iconic Marvel arcade games continues as a 4 vs 4 Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, which was officially announced during the previous year's State of Play event, returns with 20 playable characters and online lobbies. During the gameplay teaser, developers from Arc System Works, in partnership with Marvel games introduced the “Unbreakable X-Men team,” which includes an unstoppable savage tank (Wolverine), Magik, Storm, and Danger. Further, they announced that this modern age arcade will have its own brand new storyline. Speaking of gameplay, you can feel the fast-paced combat mechanism with diverse superpowers. Moving ahead, the game is all set to drop on August 6, 2026, with the pre-registrations starting from February 19, 2026.
2. God of War : Sons of Sparta
Rejoice in ecstasy, God of War fans, Santa Monica Studio just announced a new God of War game, and it will break the internet. Available from today at a whopping $29.99 and $39.99 for standard and deluxe edition respectively. Unlike God of War’s mainline titles, this brand-new game is a 2D game that acts as a prequel to the first installment of God of War. The story revolves around young Kratos, who began his journey as a Spartan warrior. Unravel a spree of killing before the tragedies of the Gods.
Although God of War has its own legacy throughout the decades, pricing a 2D game at $29.99 is a bit outrageous. According to me, the game delivers eye-appealing visuals, great combat mechanics, and fluidity to characters. So, if you are fond of artstyles from Blasphemous, then God of War: Sons of Sparta is a match made in heaven for you! In addition, TC Carson, voice actor of Kratos, announced a remake for the God of War Trilogy, focusing on Greek Mythology!

3. John Wick
What in the world are we feeding on! Sony State of Play just revealed GTA: Where is my dog? Jokes apart, Saber and Lionsgate took Hollywood and gaming on a serious note and revealed John Wick, starring Keanu Reeves, with exact character design from the series. This eagerly anticipated game is more of a dopelganger as the teaser followed similar brute mechanics, fighting choreography, and background music from the series. With an iconic tailored suit, John Wick is ready to roll out on your screens in 2026. In the meantime, players can wishlist this upcoming banger on the PlayStation Store, Xbox, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
4. Ghost of Yotei : Legends and Patch Update
This recently released feature is known as New Game+. If you are someone who has completed the game twice and doesn’t want to touch grass for some more time, then this mode is your go-to. With an RPG-like difficulty, players can now replay the entire story with their existing arsenal. Still, if the games feel easy, players can add difficulty at granular levels.
From increasing enemy aggression to timing windows to enemy damage, this game is a lot more than cinematic storytelling. Right off the bat, the developers fixed bugs, introduced stats tracking, expanded the photo mode, and gave an option to turn off fall damage. Besides this, a new announcement regarding Ghost of Yotei: Legends was made by the officials, marking the legacy of Ghost of Tsushima. This mode will be free to play for every Ghost of Yotei owner. Releasing on March 10, 2026, fans will witness hardcore enemies waiting for you to strike.
5. Marvel’s Wolverine
Insomniac struck the State of Play at the Post-Show Event, showing love and a token of gratitude towards the entire fanbase, which acted as the Studio’s backbone for several years. On the contrary, Marcus Smith (Creative Designer) claimed that “The game is built around staying true to the Wolverine experience.” Delving deeper, we got a glimpse of Liam McIntyre's nonchalant voice behind Wolverine.
Truly, a full package of uncontrolled rage and brute strength with animal instincts. Another element that makes the game more intriguing is the bloodshed. Also witness antagonists like Omega Red and Mystique.
6. Guerrilla Games revealed their upcoming game, “Horzion Hunter’s Gathering.” This online co-op game will let players immerse themselves in the Horizon Rising universe. Further, the gameplay teaser showcased 3 playable characters: Rem, Sun, and Axle. This upcoming game heavily focuses on combined abilities, rougelike builds, tactical formation, and precise use of skills to eliminate wild mecha beasts. Hunters can change classes like Tank, Support, and Tactician. Speaking of, the world-building the game will offer 4 large, different environments with difficult challenges. Hunters will be able to gear up their weapons and upgrade abilities at the Hunter’s Gathering, while hanging out at customizable spots. At last, developers revealed two different mission types titled “Machine Incursion” and “Cauldron Descent,” which players can enjoy at Play Fest 2026; however, the release date is yet to be announced by the production house.
