Is it just me, or do you also think the gaming industry is doing phenomenally well in bringing games in 2026? While games like 007 First Light, Marvel’s Wolverine, and GTA 6 hypes up the environment, Game Science has returned in the talks with its Black Myth series! Yeah, it’s the same studio that created the iconic ARPG Black Myth: Wukong back in 2024!

Considered as an idol for upcoming ARPG games, Black Myth: Wukong won millions of hearts. Known for its kinetic gameplay and stunning visuals, the game rivals Elden Ring with its boss fights (Yeah, they got bosses far greater than Malenia)

Soon after Wukong’s release, the studio won the Game of the Year at the Steam Awards (Indeed, a prodigy created by Game Science)! Witnessing so much love from the entire gaming community, Game Science is bringing a new folklore from Chinese mythology titled “Black Myth: Zhong Kui”.

So, without wasting any further time, let’s dive deep into the abyss of the Black Myth series to unveil what Zhong Kui is all about!

Black Myth : Zhong Kui- From Chinese Folklore to Modern ARPG

Praying for endless gaming sessions with the difficulty of a math paper, then Black Myth: Zhong Kui is your go-to. A new standalone sequel of Black Myth: Wukong, this BP destroyer is expected to explode on your screen around 2028 or later.

Currently in development at Game Science, this so-called “havoc” could be a bold shift in bringing mythological games as modern ARPGs with eye-pleasing visuals and cinematic fights.

As for the announcements, officials have yet to disclose factors like pricing, voice artists, and platforms where fans can savour this grand feast.

However, Black Myth: Zhong Kui’s official teaser was revealed at Gamescom as an opening act on August 20, 2025. Depicted as the next installment for the Black Myth series, the hype crossed dimensions at light speed.

For gamers out there who haven’t played Black Myth: Wukong, there’s still time to witness peak as the upcoming game will change your perspective towards Wukong and his ferocious yet funny schemes.

What is Black Myth : Zhong Kui All About- Lore

Let me yap for you again, both Black Myth games are poles apart! Son Wukong, a formidable god, also known as “Monkey King” from the classic “Journey to the West”, starts a rebellion against the celestial order (Heaven) and fights Erlang Shen in order to attain freedom from aristocracies. Due to the hierarchy followed in heaven, Son Wukong, a self-made superpower, fights for freedom.

Meanwhile, Zhong Kui, a brilliant scholar, is the demon Queller, who used to capture evil spirits and demons who disturbed the balance between realms! As we all know, the game is under early-stage development, the narrative is yet to be revealed by the officials.

Fun Fact: The only difference between Zhong Kui and Roronoa Zoro from One Piece is that one hunts down demons to maintain balance, and the other hunts pirates for bounty. Unlike Zoro, Zhong Kui was a brilliant scholar!

Black Myth : Zhong Kui Teaser Explained and Expectations

According to the 2-minute-long teaser revealed by Game Science, the game shifts from a mischievous Monkey King to a much darker and more dramatic character from Chinese Folklore known as “Zhong Kui”. The cinematic teaser is set in a dark, supernatural world where demons lurk in fear of the legendary Demon Slayer and King of demons, “Zhong Kui”.

Scenario soaked in rain and grim, the teaser further showcases an electrifying visual of the legendary Demon Queller, “Zhong Kui”, on a giant ferocious tiger. Alongside him walks his enormous sword, carried by his demon servants.

Speculations buzz over various social media platforms as this bone-chilling teaser sets a new parameter for the upcoming ARPG games. After seeing the teaser for the first time, I stood in silence with my jaw dropped! Game Science will cook the entire community with such bangers if developed with extreme caution.

Fans are expecting the game to be more intense and to have striking visuals far better than Wukong. (Game so great that I’ll need a way more powerful device).

Right off the bat, many fans from the Reddit Hall of Fame are expecting the game to have more magic spell combat compared to melee combat.

Well, this speculation should be considered by Game Science, as Zhong Kui, compared to Wukong, is a demon exorcist who had tricks up the sleeves besides brute strength.

Fans from r/BlackMythZhongKui suggest that the tiger should be a part of integral gameplay mechanic that would add some more spice to the combat mechanism.

On the other hand, fans from X, while having a televisual feast, share all the games trademarked in the Black Myth series (All Hail the SpawnYaard!).

Zhong Qui : An Ultimate Force

While we proceed towards the Black Myth series, let’s get a glimpse of the legendary Chinese folklore figure Zhong Kui. If you are aware of Zhong Kui, you passed this mythology test. However, for my lads out there weak in mythology and history, let me describe the brilliant scholar who turned the lives of demons into a living hell.

The folklore originates from the Tang Dynasty. This feared figure is a Taoist deity who was considered a prodigy. Gifted with exceptional brilliance, Zhong Kui passed the imperial exams to serve right next to the emperor.

Despite having the highest ranking in the exam, Zhong Kui was forbidden and publicly humiliated due to his terrifying appearance. Consumed by disgrace, the brilliant scholar took his own life in front of that goofball’s palace.

While going to the underworld, his morality and unshakable justice were recognized by the Jade Emperor. Moreover, Zhong Kui was appointed as the Demon Queller by the celestial order.

Wrapping Up

Filled with colossal powers, Zhong Kui is all set to disclose his journey as a pillar of judgment amongst you in the upcoming Black Myth series. Whether you like mythology or not, Game Science’s AAA mythological games will surely captivate your heart, and if you haven’t experienced a thrilling yet comical journey with Son Wukong, my lad, it’s time to explore Black Myth Wukong before entering into the dark world of Black Myth: Zhong Kui.
