AAA and RPG games have been alluring gamers for a long time. Especially, love for the story mode, including Japanese history, and a lone wolf protagonist, has skyrocketed to the pinnacle of these genres.
Since Ghost of Tsushima’s release, the gaming community has been craving more games that offer experiences like Katana clashes, wandering through a bleak, windy atmosphere, and a protagonist whose aura farming is more than Piccolo.
While Ghost of Tsushima entertains more and more fans out there, the Nioh franchise has stepped into the limelight with the upcoming game “Nioh 3”, releasing on February 6, 2026.
Likewise, a question pops up in every gamer’s mind right now. Will Nioh 3 be an alternative to Ghost of Tsushima? Answering this question is as tough as answering “why you want to take a leave.”
Without further ado, let’s delve into this world-changing discussion of Nioh 3 ascending the throne from Ghost of Tsushima.
Will Nioh 3 Become an Alternative to Ghost of Tsushima?
For my Jin Sakai fans out there, don’t be sad, as the storyline is not over yet. If you haven’t experienced Ghost of Yotei, a brand-new standalone action-adventure sequel of Ghost of Tsushima, there’s still time to relive your favorite nostalgia.
However, if you are like me, who has completed both storylines along with games like the Nioh Franchise and Assassin's Creed: Shadows, you need to touch some grass.
Revisiting the question, I think that if a player loves action-adventure and role-playing games just for their lightning-fast combat mechanism, then he/she can consider Nioh 3 as an alternative, and why am I yapping this?
The game’s combat is much more intricate compared to Ghost of Tsushima. Although both games deliver top-notch katana-wielding action, Nioh 3 might overrule as the game falls into the RPG genre, focusing more on combat depth, ragebaiting bosses, and side quests that take apmle amount of time.

So, if you play for some bloodthirsty deuls with supernatural elements like demonic powers and want adrenaline-pumped fight choreographies, then Nioh 3 is a perfect game that can work as an alternative to Ghost of Tsushima for you.
Experiencing Nioh 3 might end the craving for playing games like Ghost of Tsushima until you go for scenic beauty and cinematic cuts straight from Cristhoper Nolan’s movie.
Being on a lone-wolf path, both Tokugawa Takechiyo and Jin Sakai shares same fate, which makes them face their loved ones on a vicious battlefield. Another aspect why fans might love Nioh 3 as an alternative is that both games depict a replica of historical accuracy.
From the Mongolian Invasion of Japan to the Attack on Edo Castle, the game’s narrative delves deep into an unthinkable resolution of a samurai and his bone-chilling valor to protect his country’s or family’s dignity and values.
However, Ghost of Tsushima stands miles apart if you are looking for a Japanese historical game focusing on stunning world-building and scenic beauty throughout the sandbox. On the other hand, I don’t think Nioh 3 can become an alternative if speaking of elements like cinematic storytelling or an exploration immersed within feudal Japan’s landscapes.
Fans Thought on Will Nioh 3 Fare Against Ghost of Tsushima?
Meanwhile, Reddit user DleG03rr3 from r/Nioh states that “Although Ghost of Tsushima, Assassin's Creed: Shadows, and Ghost of Yotei are action-adventure and games like 'Nioh 3’ lie in the RPG genre, they seem similar due to a general feeling of exploration.

Further, contradicts his own statement by saying that the judgment for such a criterion comes down to the gameplay experience and how much Nioh 3 will change from its predecessors.
Another user from r/Nioh, titled LordAnomander, states that Ghost of Tsushima looks phenomenal, but the gameplay loop gets boring after playing everything once.
However, prefers to buy Nioh 3 even if they didn’t change much of its formula as it is a loot game with great builds and goated combat mechanism. (Reddit users do look for niche gameplay!)
Wrapping Up
As per my perspective, if you love samurai-themed games with thrilling boss fights, high-voltage action, and challenges that keep you awake for nights, then Nioh 3 is eligible to become an alternative to the legendary Ghost of Tsushima. Both games serve their best and are known for their intensity. Remember, no game is easy unless played in amateur mode.
