Hold onto your yellow spandex, true believers, because the internet is doing that thing again. You know, the thing where a game studio tweets something (a little clever sometimes) and suddenly everyone acts like they’ve confirmed the involvement of a new character.

Recently, Insomniac Games dropped a tweet that sent the Marvel community into a literal tailspin.

The Tweet in question : “Claws”? What’s that, some kind of fancy lawyer lingo?”

Now, if you’ve spent five minutes on TheGamer or ComicBookMovie today, you’d think Matt Murdock is as good as confirmed for a playable character in Marvel's Wolverine. But before we brood over the death of journalistic restraint, let’s actually look at the 'evidence' with a little more skepticism.

The ‘Lawyer’ Hysteria

Look, we get it. We’re all desperate for Marvel's Wolverine news. We’re hungry. And Insomniac knows it.

Publications are currently falling over themselves to link this to the Spider-Man 2 Easter eggs. You remember: the missing Nelson & Murdok sign, the secret room that looked like a recruitment office, and the collective heartbreak when we got no DLC. It’s the ultimate "I’m not saying it’s Daredevil, but it’s Daredevil" strategy.

But let's be diplomatic for a second: Is it possible? Sure. Is it also possible that Insomniac's social team just thought dropping a tweet like that would be hilarious? Also sure.

The "Who’s Who?" of Marvel Law : It’s Not Just Matt, Guys

While the rest of the internet is hyper-fixated on a blind guy from Hell’s Kitchen, they’re ignoring the fact that the Marvel Universe has enough lawyers to fill a dinner table for 6. If Insomniac is actually teasing a legal angle, why settle for the obvious?

If we’re going to overanalyze a tweet, let’s do it properly. Here is the actual list of people that could be possibly be called out for their "fancy lingo":

Jennifer Walters (She-Hulk) : Honestly, this makes way more sense. If Logan is out there slicing through Madripoor, he doesn't need a pro-bono defense attorney - he needs a 'Superhuman Legal Help' who can go toe-to-toe with him at the bar.

Matt Murdock (Daredevil) : The fan-favorite. He’s great at fights, but considering how we haven't been getting his game appearance (the one that we all deserve) all this while...let's not get our hopes up - yet!

Foggy Nelson : Maybe Logan just needs a really good friend who is surprisingly competent at legal paperwork?

Jeryn Hogarth : If the game involves corporate espionage (looking at you, Roxxon), Hogarth is the cut-throat choice.

Augustus "Pug" Pugliese : The Superhuman Law Division’s leader. If anyone can find a loophole for 'accidental dismemberment,' it's this guy.

Blake Tower : It's basically the Assistant District Attorney who's considered an ally to Daredevil.

Unless Matt Murdock is taking a very aggressive vacation, a 'crossover' requires some serious narrative skills. Are we really expecting a blind lawyer to navigate a jungle? (Actually, don't answer that - he’d probably be fine, he’s called Daredevil for a reason folks).

Our Verdict : Take a Breath

Is this a ‘Fancy Lawyer’ tease for a massive crossover? Maybe. Insomniac loves a slow burn. But it could also just be a joke in our faces.

While other publications are basically writing Matt Murdock’s wedding vows to the PS5, we’re going to sit back, sip our favourite drink, and wait for the actual gameplay reveal (cries in a corner called 'State of Play'). Because at the end of the day, whether it’s Daredevil, She-Hulk, or just a lawyer-friend, we’re all just here to see some Adamantium do its thing.
