How to Catch Monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds : Full Capture Guide

The newly-released creation by Capcom, Monster Hunter Wilds, has seen a larger fan base since its entry. Critics and players have tagged Wilds as one of the easiest and most successful entries in the series, helping to reach great heights of fame.
While being engaged in an incredible action adventure, players will be professional hunters of deadly monsters. Not only this, as a player, you will transverse to various regions of the world and find useful resources. Gathering resources will help you craft new items, and for other purposes, like leveling up.
Besides this, the game has numerous powerful monsters that players need to sweep out strategically. Defeating those monsters can be done via two approaches: Capturing or Killing.
Seems interesting enough! Isn’t It? Both of these ways might seem similar to many players, but aren't. Yes, you have already got it correctly.
Capturing enemies instead of killing them will grant you some unique materials. Additionally, players aren’t required to finish them, saving a lot of time and effort.
It might seem easy to catch them, but not. Are you still stuck in capturing those deadly enemies? Well, here is what you should know about capturing monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds.
A Detailed Guide to Catch Monsters
To get monsters in Wilds, players need to ensure three things:
- Craft the necessary items
- Monster is weakened
- Trap and Tranque the enemy
Preparing a Trap and Tranque item, including Tranq Ammo, Bombs, and Knives requires dedication and correct procedure. When you are done preparing them, you can easily catch the monster.
First things first, you need to engage in the battle and fight normally. Follow the process until the opponent starts to limp. While doing this, you must ensure whether the monster is weakened by looking at the white skull icon next to the monster's symbol.
- Tip : You can trap the enemy easily after weakening it from exhaustion.
When things are under your control, you should be well-equipped with the required weapons and a trap.
Once you have the trap, stand next to the monster. Follow the path where it goes and put the trap accordingly to capture it.
- Note : Activating the trap will take a few seconds.
When the enemy walks over the trap, it will immobilize for around 10 seconds. Strategically, throw Tranq Bombs and Knives, or shoot Tranq Ammo on the enemy. Once the monster falls, it will give the monster materials, including Palico XP and Guild Points as rewards.
As it is evident that traps are an essential component in Monster Hunter Wilds, you might be curious to know about them.
A Summary of Monster Hunter Wilds Traps
In Wilds, there are two types of traps:
- Pitfall Traps
- Shock Traps
Depending on the monster type, you need to use a certain trap. It is seen that some enemies are immune to one variant of trap. In this case, you need to hold both variants with you to catch any monster.
Crafting Traps
- Shock Traps can be obtained using 1 Trap Tool and 1 Thunderbug capacitor.
- Pitfall Traps can be crafted with 1 Trap Tool and 1 Net.
Using Traps
You need to equip the trap in your item bar. Placing the trap can be done by pressing the Square (X) while on the location. For best results, you must place the trap beneath the monster.
If the enemy is at a far distance, you can set the trap strategically while attacking.
Monster Hunter Wilds’ Tranq Bombs, Ammos, and Blades
Once you trap the opponent, the first step that you need to do is throw bombs, ammo, and blades over it. Bombs are useful for close-range encounters, while the other two are beneficial for far distances.
- Note : Use Tranq items twice simultaneously on the opponent.
Crafting Tranq Bombs, Ammos and Knives
- Tranq Bomb: 1 Sleep Herb and 1 Parashroom
- Tranq Ammo: 1 Tranq Bomb and 1 Normal Ammo
- Tranq Knife: 1 Tranq Bomb and 1 Throwing Knife
To Sum Up
Players must place the trap first to capture the enemy, followed by using tranq bombs, knives, and ammo.
Capturing enemies in Monster Hunter Wilds is extremely fun, requiring players to be dedicated to the items.
